PENANG: On 18th March 2021 to 16 April 2021, Team Biodiversity had organized an interesting programme. The theme of the programme was “The Mystique of Nature” and the title of the programme was “Nature Hunt Challenge”. This programme was held using the platform iNaturalist and the Whatsapp platform will be used to inform the important information to the participants.
The purpose of the “Nature Hunt Challenge” programme is to take advantage of the current situation of students to show the diversity of species of flora and fauna among the participants. The programme took a long period of time as the knowledge of flora and fauna is vast to be explored comprehensively. The programme encouraged students to go out and explored the nature to release the latent stress of academic learning activities.
In this programme, the participants need to download the app “iNaturalist” to participate in the programme. Participants needed to use the app to explore nature in their neighbourhood, city or university. After downloading the app, the participants will log in or sign up an account using their own name and matric number as the username. The participants need to join the “Nature Hunt Challenge@Kampus Sejahtera, USM”. After completing all of the steps above, the participants would observe the flora and fauna in their surroundings and captured the photo. After capturing the photo of flora and fauna, the participants are required to upload the photo that they have already captured including the location, name of species and the date observed.
In this programme, the programme will choose the top 3 winners based on the highest number of observations gained. Furthermore, this programme has received 17108 observations from the participants. From the observations, there have 2117 species from 17108 observations.
This programme is considered successful because there are around 74 of the participants that participate in this programme. Through this programme, the participants will get to know a lot of flora and fauna that appeared in the surroundings. In conclusion, this programme is truly meaningful to all the participants.
