PENANG : On the 17th of April 2021, the Team Social from Kampus Sejahtera society had organized a forum called “USM AND ITS PROSPECTS ON SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY”. This forum was held virtually through Webex.
In this event we are glad to have Prof Dr Md Roslan bin Hashim, Assoc Prof Dr Saidatulakmal Mohd and Dr Lai Wan Teng to share their thoughts with our participants. The purpose we chose this topic because we notice that social sustainability is arguably the least understood of the different approaches of sustainability. Therefore, the purpose of this forum is to emphasize and educate USM to implement SDG goals and to learn about how USM is to adapt to the post-COVID era in regards to SDG surrounding social crises. In this forum some of the questions been highlighted like what are USM prospccts in sustaining its very own goals in the sustainable development? What are the barriers that do still exist to challenge USM from fully realising its ideal goals in sustainable development? How have USM progressed throughout the past adopting the“SDG-culture”and what mcasures have USM taken to design its future prospccts in view of the uncertain socioeconomic paradigm? In terms of establishing the future-proof frontier, how significant it is to inculcate“ Sustainability Quotient” among the students, the staffs and eventually the outside community? And what strategies have USM adopted? And lastly,in light of the post- COVID era,how shall all these contingcncics play out for USM?
At the end of this session, we have an open q&a session for our participants and lucky draw to appreciate participating in our event.
This event was considered to be a success because it clearly linked the concept of social sustainability to USM. At the end of this forum, USM students will have a better understanding of how USM recently substantiated its SDGs goals.
