PENANG : On the 9th December of 2021,Kampus Sejahtera celebrated its 20th anniversary. Kampus Sejahtera was built with certain objectives such as to serve a conducive physical and social environment for each individual in USM and to promote sustainable ideas and practices which are environment-friendly, pedestrian-friendly, consumer-friendly to enhance a healthy lifestyle.
About 302 students from Universiti Sains Malaysia(USM) joined this ceremony along with wonderful speakers throughout the session.It was an interesting virtual ceremony because there were lot of information about how USM practices sustainability and their twenty years of succesful journey to achieve their long lasting sustainability.Fun fact,USM made its biggest step towards sustainability by banning the usage of polystyrene in their campuses since 2008.Only paper and plastic based wrappers were used for takeaways in all the cafes and business kiosks.
In this programme, a video highlighting on USM achievements in their past 20 years to achieve sustainability was played.Speakers of the day also answered few important questions related to sustainbility which we believe that in the end of programme can induce participants' interest to practice sustainability in their daily life.USM's volunteerism practice and little details about SDGs were also included in this ceremony.
