PENANG: On 24th and 25th of June 2023, in conjunction with Bulan Kelestarian USM, Kampus Sejahtera organized an amazing carnival with the theme “Sustainable Future Initiative Exhibition(SUFIEX)”. The aim of this carnival was to highlight and promote the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) through a series of interesting events and programmes by each team under Kampus Sejahtera. The carnival was held at Dewan Utama Pelajar(DUP) A & B, and Padang Kawad USM.
On 24th of June 2023, the carnival started with the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony of SUFIEX was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed and followed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Industry & Community Network Vice Chancellor, YBRS Prof. Dr. Azlan Amran. SUFIEX 2023 and Green Office were then inaugurated by the VIPs.
SUFIEX 2023 included a variety of fun-filled mini game booths and interesting events.

Besides SDGs Exhibition Booths, each team from Kampus Sejahtera also organized a variety of impactful events in conjunction with SUFIEX 2023.
“Light and Sensory Biodiversity Exhibition” from Team Biodiversity was aimed to raise awareness on global biodiversity through an artificial environment revolving around the theme of biodiversity. The participants were impressed by the exhibition with 360 motion and sensory tools.

Team Health had collaborated with Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah to organize blood donation event. It was a good platform for the volunteers to save lives by donating their blood. Besides that, Team Health also collaborated with Pusat Sejahtera USM and School of Pharmaceutical Sciences to organize health screening event to raise awareness and understanding of participants’ own health.

“The Amazing World of Recycling” workshop from Team Social was organized to discover the power of sustainability and inspire the participants to save the earth through recycling. The event was collaborated with the Environmental Protection and Education Hub. Through this interactive workshop, the participants got a chance to be a part of creating a greener future for mother nature.
“Sustainable Future Talk” from Team Water was held to educate and motivate the participants to dive deep into the urgent need for a sustainable future. The talk provided a golden opportunity for all participants to share their thoughts on a sustainable future and discuss the practical solutions that will shape the way to a sustainable future.

“Metal Straw & Scented Candle Sales” from Team Zero-waste had encouraged all USMians to start going green and save the earth by reducing the usage of plastic straws and promoting sustainability through metal straws. Team Zero-waste also promoted zero-waste and renewable sources by organizing Soap Making Workshop during SUFIEX carnival. Through this workshop, the participants had learnt the art of crafting soaps as well as the reusable materials to make an eco-friendly environment.

“Make It Doable For The Renewable” event from Team Energy was a talk session to inspire the participants to explore innovative strategies and practical solutions towards a sustainable future. The speaker was Mr. Muhammad Safiudin Rosli, who was passionate in applying sustainability and has contributed to society in order to achieve SDGs by 2030.

Besides these events and mini games booths, Kampus Sejahtera also collaborated with Ikatan Mahasiswa/i Johor(IKMAR) USM to hold a food festival. The mouth-watering foods had attracted many USMians to visit the food festival.

Overall, SUFIEX 2023 had been conducted successfully with great and excellent support from all participants, sponsors, collaborators and committees. We hope that everyone enjoyed the carnival and found it valuable. Let us continue to fight for a sustainable future by practising what we have learnt through SUFIEX 2023.
